The Mur absorbing boundary conditions (ABCs) are used very widely for the truncation of the finite‐difference mesh. The purpose of this note is to present an alternate form of the second‐order Mur absorbing boundary condition. It has a more compact form and can be viewed as a special case of the second‐order dispersive boundary condition. This compact form is not only simple to implement, but also requires less computational time. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
