The electromagnetic modeling of the Fresnel‐zone plate antenna (FZPA) by means of physical optics (PO) and the uniform theory of diffraction (UTD) is experimentally verified. Near‐field measurements on basic configurations of the FZPA (i.e., a slit and two rings in a metallic plate) at 50 GHz and far‐field measurements on a complete FZPA at 11.5 GHz show good correspondence with computer simulations based on UTD and PO. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
