We present a simple and inexpensive interferometric technique for mapping the refractive index profile of an optical fiber. This technique also enables one ot determine whether a fiber is a step index fiber or a graded index fiber. Experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
