A three‐dimensional SOFT (self‐organizing finite‐element tessellation) mesh generator, based on self‐organizing topology‐preserving feature maps, is developed for electromagnetic field problems. A user‐supplied probability function controls the density of the graded mesh, and local mesh refinements are easily incorporated. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
