In this article shortcomings of the Fresnel knife‐edge theory are discussed and simple analytical correction factors are obtained with the help of UTD single‐wedge results. This new formulation is especially helpful in radio links where great diffraction effects are a concern. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
