The analytical expression for the fractional power dissipated by a microwave circuit is derived in terms of the scattering parameters. Consideration is given to both complex and real port reference impedances. Theoretical values of fractional dissipated power, computed using a full‐wave analysis technique, are compared to experimentally obtained data. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
