An explicit formula for computing the equivalent inductive circuit parameters of E‐plane metal inserts is derived. The number of inserts is arbitrary. The thickness of each insert is taken into account. An equivalent T network is used to model the E‐plane discontinuity. The dielectric constant between the metal inserts can be different. A mode‐matching method is used in the formulation. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
