An application of the patch shape symmetry for the basis‐function selection for the Green's function/Galerkin's solution is reported. As a result many impedance matrix elements are equal to zero and the computation time is reduced. The symmetry properties of four commonly used microstrip patch antennas are described as examples. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
