Numerical results of the absorption cross sections of dielectric cylinder clusters are presented. They show that the absorption of such clusters can be several times larger than the incoherent sum of the absorption of its components. The absorption enhancement of the cluster is due to coherent mutual interaction between its components and can play an important role in remote sensing, particularly in passive remote sensing. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
