In this article the effect of noise in the data on the Cauchy method is discussed. The noise is assumed to be zero mean and Gaussian. The resulting random variable is a ratio of two Gaussians. The theoretical probability density function is verified by numerical simulation. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
