A new architecture is presented to optically self‐route photonic ATM switching. Two wavelengths are used to carry clock‐data and address signals, respectively. This allows to independent processing of both signals at each switching mode; so the complexity of optical routing controllers is reduced while the reliability of address decoding is improved. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
