Theoretical and experimental results for QW‐diode oscillators integrated with a rectangular microstrip antenna, forming an active antenna, are reported. Multimode operation is demonstrated for the active antenna, with an equivalent isotropic radiated power (EIRP) of 0.73 mW for the antenna TM 01 mode, at 810 MHz. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
