Abstract When using passive coupling in a single‐mode fiber‐optic network, all interfaces are not allowed to tap into the fiber because there will be a significant power loss at every tap, at least for current technology. In this Letter, a systolic array collective interface is presented which alleviates the above problem due to its inherent property of parallel processing. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
