This article presents a theoretical and experimental analysis of the focusing properties of metallic chirped gratings. These aperiodic gratings are designed to focus energy at a desired position by varying the strip width and strip spacing. The location of the individual strips, their width variation, distance of separation, and angle of incidence determine the focal point of the chirped grating. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
