This Letter compares the results of two methods for predicting the scattering from periodic arrays of metallic strips. The first method is a full spectral domain analysis incorporating the sampling theorem, while the second is a multimodal network solution to the problem. Results are compared for thin and thick strips under both TE and TM wave incidence. It is shown that the multimode network solution is about five times more computationally efficient and yet yields virtually identical results. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
