A generalized approach for the design of traveling wave amplifiers will be presented. Compared to conventional methods our procedure introduces filter techniques in the TWA design. The main advantage is an improved input and output VSWR of the circuit. A complete amplifier design based on available technological process parameters will be demonstrated. The introduction of normalized parameters and charts results in a process‐independent applicability of the method. The method is well matched to the facilities of MMIC design since the demand for FETs with different gate widths can be satisfied easily. © 1993 John Wiley & sons, Inc.
