A symmetrical coplanar waveguide with finite ground plane (SCPW) has been analyzed. The symmetrical configuration is obtained by simply placing a dielectric substrate above a conventional finite ground plane coplanar waveguide (FCPW). The conformal mapping method is used to calculate the quasistatic effective permittivity ϵ eff and characteristic impedance Z 0 . The SCPW has a larger ϵ eff and a smaller Z 0 , compared with the conventional FCPW. This configuration should be useful for the design of balanced mixer circuits and for applications to the design of balanced feed lines in printed antennas. © 1993 John Wiley & sons, Inc.
