If we are dealing with a fixed matrix which we want to use for matrix‐vector or matrix‐matrix operation and if we can measure the effective matrix represented, then we can often calculate a precompensating matrix which can also be implemented optically. This effectively squares the accuracy, e.g., from the typical 4 bits to 8 bits. © 1993 John Wiley & sons, Inc.
