For a half‐space barrier potential, it has been shown that the potential functions in a'shallow region 0 > x > d can be accurately reconstructed by using a generalized Born approximation from the reflection coefficient r(k) at x = 0, and the reconstructed error is notable when x < d . By using the network theory presented in this article, we can transform the reflection coefficient at x = 0 into the one at x = d, from which the potential functions of the region x < d can be accurately reconstructed. Numerical examples are given, which show the applicability of this method. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
