A method‐of‐moments surface patch formulation has been applied to examine edge slots in rectangular waveguide. The electric field in the aperture and the vicinity of the slot is computed using the solution for the current distribution on the waveguide walls. The results of such “numerical experimentation” are described in this article. The slot field distribution is shown to be near‐cosinusoidal, with discontinuities at the corners of the waveguide which are more marked than has been shown previously. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
