In this article the characterization of planar structures using the method of lines in cylindrical coordinates is presented. The capacitance of different segments of a miscrostrip circular ring is studied: special attention is given to edge stray capacitances. This method of calculation can find applications in the characterization of microstrip components in MIC, MHMIC, and MMIC with shapes easily fitted to cylindrical coordinates (e.g., circular ring, fan shape, etc.). © 1992 John Wiley & Sons.
