A new formulation for coherent inelastic scattering by an arbitrary body uniformly filled with active molecules is obtained by the extended boundary condition method and a particular solution of the nonhomogeneous wave equation for the inelastic electric field inside the body due to the existence of active molecules is included. The agreement between the current results for coherent inelastic scattering by a sphere uniformly filled with active molecules and the exact resuits shows the current formulation is not restricted to the case of weak scattering. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
