The article presents a methodology to generalize the branching synthesis method for synthesizing symmetrical ring structures with transmission‐line section branches of any electrical length. The procedure is applied to a five‐port junction which, in connection with a directional coupler, forms a six‐port for measurement applications. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
