Expressions for time‐domain (TD) scattered fields from a finite perfectly electrically conducting (PEC) cylinder with one end open and one end closed have been obtained using time‐domain physical optics (TDPO) and time‐domain geometrical theory of diffraction (TDGTD). The TDGTD coefficient according to Veruttipong has been used to calculate the TDGTD scattered fields. Important results including a comparison of the TDPO and TDGTD results are discussed. Some closed‐end scattering results of the cylinder have been compared with Dominek's recent investigations on disk scattering and are found to agree. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
