Solitary‐wave excitation in a slab waveguide bounded by two different non‐Kerr‐like media exhibiting saturable self‐focusing nonlinearity is investigated. From numerical calculation it is found that solitary waves are emitted from the nonlinear interfaces. Moreover, mutual interaction between them is observed if the excitation is larger. The simulated results are useful for the study of three‐dimensional solitary waves. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
