A spectral domain analysis of the rectangular microstrip antenna with an air gap is presented. Numerical results are given on input impedance, resonant frequency, and radiation patterns. It is found that, as the air gap width increases, both the resonant frequency and the impedance bandwidth increase, accompanied by a decrease in beamwidth. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
