The minimum reflection signature of polished plastic fiber splices has been measured using time domain reflectrometry. Predominant splice reflection sources due to surface roughness, inexact index matching, and fiber core misalignment were eliminated. An intrinsic reflection signature on top of the Rayleigh floor is clearly observable in all tested fibers.
