Plane‐wave diffraction by a finite sinusoidal grating is analyzed approximately using the Wiener‐Hopf technique combined with the perturbation method. Scattered far field is derived with the aid of the saddle‐point method and scattering characteristics of the grating are discussed via numerical computations of the far‐field patterns.
