Cavity Q's and reflection coefficients for cavities excited by single “ergodic” eigenmodes are quantitatively calculated based on the available expressions derived from the Hamiltonian formulation. The results are compared with those obtained for multimode excitation in large, “untuned” resonant cavities. Applications relevant to the microwave and millimeter‐wave regime are discussed. In addition to absorption spectroscopy and materials processing, ergodic cavities may used as radiation‐beam dumps for high‐power testing of millimeter‐wave sources.
