Normal modes of n‐coupled stripline structures can be constructed out of a set of generating modes. For coplanar structures a proper choice of the generating set may be based on tridiagonal symmetric Toeplitz L and C matrices. The relationship between the normal‐mode set and the generating‐mode set is established by resorting to standard first‐order perturbation theory results. A numerical example, involving a shielded coplanar five‐line structure (n = 5) is provided for demonstration purposes.
