Abstract A microstrip leaky‐wave antenna is treated as a microwave network. A transverse resonance method with perturbation technique is applied to the resonance equation to get results in a simple and practical form. The aperture admittance is taken from that of a dielectric loaded parallel plate transmission line radiating into space. Good agreement is obtained between the theoretical and the experimental results.
