This paper presents an analysis of a transversally symmetric three‐line microstrip structure whose side lines have discontinuities. The device is shown to behave as a bandstop or as a passband filter depending on an asymmetry coefficient characterizing the discontinuity localization. Formulas for the filter parameters (attenuation, bandwidth, phase and group velocities, and characteristic wave impedance) are established and design examples are provided to illustrate the analysis results.
