In this paper, Reed‐Solomon codes are applied to a multipulse position modulation scheme derived from a combinatorial design. Under high noise background radiation level, threshold detection of this system offers a better performance compared to a RS coded standard PPM system, considering the same information efficiency in nats per photon, and a similar bandwidth expansion factor.
