The principles and design method of modified all‐pass phase shifter (phaser) are presented. As a key component of Butler matrix (BM), the proposed phaser offers the possibility to realize BM with additional degree of freedom. The design procedure of the four‐beam dipole phased array with the proposed phasers is discussed and illustrated. As experimental verification, the four‐beam array for 2.2 GHz applications is manufactured and tested. Satisfying performances at matching, co– and cross–polarization patterns among all input ports can be observed covering a 12% relative bandwidth.
