For a wireless communication device surrounded by a metal frame, a slot antenna is required to ensure antenna performance. However, the closed slot antenna, which is blocked by metal on all sides, has a disadvantage of narrow bandwidth when the aperture size is small. In this study, a method for widening the bandwidth by integrating the closed slot antenna with an inverted F antenna is proposed herein. Using this method, the inverted F antenna is mounted on the slot antenna, and the feeding structure is set up to merge the resonance frequencies of the two antennas. The proposed antenna is fabricated and is measured to have a bandwidth of 450 MHz (2.3 to 2.75 GHz) at 2.4 GHz for S 11 < −10 dB. The measured efficiency is over 75% in this frequency band. The proposed method is expected to be used to widen the bandwidth of antennas for metal‐framed devices with insufficient antenna mounting space.
