A compact dual band multiple input and multiple output (MIMO) antenna was proposed. It resonates at 5.93 and 7.68 GHz. A 2 × 1 MIMO antenna with edge to edge distance of λ 0 /25 ( f  = 5.93 GHz) developed and its performance is evaluated in terms of mutual coupling using three techniques: (a) defected ground structure (DGS), (b) asymmetrical coplanar strips (ACPS), and (c) combination of DGS and ACPS. Results show that with DGS mutual coupling (S 21 ) is reduced by −30.61 dB at 5.93 GHz and −29.5 dB at 7.68 GHz. Using ACPS mutual coupling (S 21 ) is reduced by −27.91 dB at 5.93 GHz and −47 dB at 7.68 GHz. With ACPS and DGS mutual coupling (S 21 ) is reduced by −58 dB at 5.93 GHz and −28.65 dB at 7.68 GHz. Its performance is also evaluated in terms of radiation patterns, VSWR, envelope correlation coefficient, and diversity gain.
