Abstract In this research letter, a new type of miniaturized ultra‐wideband planer equiangular spiral antenna is designed. This present antenna can cover an operating bandwidth of 0.8‐6 GHz. In the new design, the original antenna is effectively miniaturized by introducing three special branches to extend the electrical length in the working band. This present method expands the bandwidth of the antenna, and finally realizes miniaturization, and ultra‐wideband of the antenna. Compared with the original antenna, the antenna can reduce the size about 37.5% at low frequencies. Finally, the new antenna has good performances, which are verified by simulation and measurement results.
