A compact wideband bandpass filter (BPF) with broad stopband using hybrid half‐mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) resonator and open‐circuit tri‐section SIRs (OTSIRs) is proposed. A BPF with 3 transmission poles (TPs) and 3 transmission zeros is obtained by cascading the HMSIW resonator and OTSIRs using J and K inverters. A demonstrated wideband BPF with the stopband up to 4.4 times the designed center frequency for a 20 dB rejection level is designed, fabricated and measured. The measured results verify the predicted attractive features.
