The feeding network is an essential part of the series‐fed microstrip array antenna. It needs additional space on the substrate or even extra layer of the substrate. However, the traditional feeding network has no contribution to the gain, which will result in an unnecessary waste of space. In this letter, a novel 1‐to‐3 feeding network combining with radiated patches is presented. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, the feeding network with radiation contribution is reported for the first time. The modified feeding network can feed antenna and radiate energy at the same time. To verify the design strategy, a series‐fed microstrip array antenna with the proposed radiated feeding network is designed. Compared with the series‐fed microstrip array antenna with traditional feeding network, a 15.3% higher gain is obtained by the proposed antenna. Finally, a prototype of the proposed antenna is fabricated and tested. Measured results show that the antenna works in a band from 9.41 to 10.18 GHz. The measured peak gain is 19.75 dBi at 10 GHz. A good agreement between simulated and measured results is achieved.
