A 1‐D nonuniform antenna array fed by a dielectric waveguide operating at 5.7 GHz is proposed. Based on the electromagnetic coupling between the inside travelling wave and the antenna elements, a broadside directive radiation pattern is obtained. The presence of a ground plane allows wall mounting, which is advantageous in many wireless fidelity applications. A prototype was built and measured to prove the concept. The measured −6 dB bandwidth is ca. 150 MHz and the measured realized gain is 9.58 dBi in the broadside direction. This is a very reasonable performance for an extremely simple structure, without feeding network, which is easily manufactured with cheap mass‐production Printed Circuit Board technology.
