In this article, the double square loop and gridded square loop structures were studied to investigate their operating principle and the effects of the key parameters for the design of high selectivity frequency‐selective surface (FSS). An explicit expression was proposed for the starting point of optimization. To experimentally verify the design principle, a K‐band FSS was fabricated and measured. Measurement was conducted using time gated method and compared with the simulation, showing a satisfactory agreement between each other.
