In this article, simulation and experimental studies of compact dielectric resonant antenna array have been performed for microwave imaging systems and X‐band applications. A novel feed structure has been proposed to excite the four cylindrical dielectric resonators. The proposed antenna array shows dual band characteristics i.e., 4.15–7.2 GHz and 9.35–17.2 GHz with the bandwidth of 3.05 GHz and 7.85 GHz respectively. The proposed antenna has been fabricated and tested. Measurement results have been extracted and found in good agreement with simulated results. The proposed antenna array affords appropriate gain, high radiation efficiency, wide bandwidth, small size, and stable radiation patterns over the entire bands which are essential performance characteristics to be utilized for C band, X band, and Ku band applications.
