Planar resonant structures made of curved coupled microstrip and slot lines and their application for microwave filtering are presented. The prominent feature of the proposed resonators is their wide bandwidth. It is demonstrated that such resonators are useful for microwave band‐reject and low‐pass filtering applications. The proposed structures were compared with split‐ring resonators (SRRs) and complementary split‐ring resonators (CSRRs). The size of the filters made with the proposed resonators was similar to those made with SRR and CSRR; however, their bandwidths were larger. Prototypes were fabricated and tested.
