This article presents a design of a series fed compact antenna array based on the concept of gain variation of a rectangular microstrip antenna for a desired aperture/amplitude distribution to suppress the first side lobe level (FSLL). An analysis is presented in the X band with respect to the number of elements for series fed antenna arrays. The requirement of a compact design having few numbers of elements with reduced FSLL and beam tilt of 50 degrees has been realized. Simulated results are experimentally validated with reasonable agreement.
