Two ultra‐wideband antennas are designed as a unit cell with two orthogonal polarizations based on crossed‐dipole principle. The proposed antenna contains one crossed electric dipole layer stacking on the top of coplanar waveguide fed Bowtie slot layer. The layered stack‐up enables the broadside flat panel array and the large volume production. The measurement of V‐pol antenna shows > 2GHz impedance bandwidth and flat gain response. The deliberate positioning of the unit cell creates an antenna array for a polarimetric radar. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 59:1407–1411, 2017
