In this letter, a dual‐band miniaturized planar equiangular spiral antenna is proposed. The present antenna is designed for two bands including 0.8–1.0 GHz and 1.7 GHz–4.95 GHz, whose radiation is designed as circular polarization in upper band. The new configuration is transformed with adding two branches which can reduce the size of the antenna effectively, and this method can reach about 15.5% size decrease when it works at lows frequency than the case without the branches. Eventually, the last measured data displays the good working properties of the new antenna. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 59:1378–1382, 2017
