In this article, we demonstrate a novel all optical D‐type flip flop (D‐FF) system for high speed data processing. The Cross Gain Modulation (XGM) response of four Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOAs) has been exploited to create optical logics for D‐FF. The system validity has been experimentally demonstrated by using the optical bit sequences operating at 10 Gbps. The proposed system can be extended in data rate and also be used as a basic architecture for the photonic integrated circuit. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
