Numerical dosimetry with regards to a resonance‐based wireless power transfer (RBWPT) system for electric vehicles has been conducted. An RBWPT system operating at 13.56 MHz was designed and the electromagnetic field exposure level for an electric vehicle mounted with a 6.6 kW RBWPT system was investigated. Specific absorption rates in a human body model in proximity to the RBWPT system have been evaluated for three exposure scenarios (i.e., a human body model located at the rear and side of the vehicle model, and in the driver's seat). Here, the results are discussed in terms of international safety guidelines. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 59:937–941, 2017
