A novel, compact planar switchable filter having good in‐band and wide out‐of‐band characteristic with three switching modes [low‐pass filter (LPF), band‐stop filter (BSF) and band‐pass filter (BPF)] is presented. Reconfigurability in this aspect is never reported in literature. The reconfigurability is achieved by using a minimum of five switches. A very good agreement is shown between the simulated and measured results. The overall circuit size of the proposed switchable filter is only 14 mm × 16.72 mm. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
