This letter presents a specific design of an ultra‐wideband (UWB) microstrip monopole antenna of dimensions 35 × 25 × 1.6 mm 3 realised on FR4 substrate. The UWB performance from 3.1 to 16.3 GHz is achieved with return‐loss better than 10 dB. To achieve UWB performance, a quarter circular patch with tapered microstrip feed line has been used. This antenna has compact and simple structure suitable for fabrication and integration with microwave integrated circuits (MIC). Effect of varying geometric parameters on return‐loss has been studied using Ansoft High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) software. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
